Jon Jones: Getting out of UFC contract ‘very, very possible’ - MMA Fighting

Jon Jones thinks getting out his contract with the UFC won’t be as impossible as many believe. Jones was in attendance for this past Saturday’s Rousey vs. Carano event and watched Francis Ngannou pick up a first-round knockout victory over Philipe Lins. Jones said after the fight he’d love to get out of his contract to fight Ngannou because he knows the UFC would never allow the fight to take place due to their heated relationship with Ngannou. While the MMA community believes there’s no chance that happens, Jones appears to be confident he can get out of the deal. “I don’t know, I think getting out of my UFC contract is very, very possible,” Jones told Denise White. “I need to find the right people, go through my channels, or just put more effort into it.” Jones informed the UFC of his retirement and vacated the heavyweight title a little less than a year ago, but wanted to return for the UFC White House card. UFC CEO Dana White was clear from day one that he had zero interest in having Jones on the card — which has led to Jones wondering if he even has a reason to continue on with his MMA career. The former two-division champion says he actually has aspirations to compete out of the cage and in the squared circle. “I really wanted to box,” Jones said. “If I were to put all of my energy in my hands, combinations, and punching power, I think I really could surprise a lot of people. I would love to box. That would be a lot of fun.”
